I am Professor of Journalism and Director of the Centre for Journalism at Cardiff University which is the UK's oldest Journalism School, offering postgraduate vocational training alongside academic research and undergraduate courses in journalism, media and cultural studies.
Previously, I worked in BBC Journalism for 30 years, in radio TV and online, including being DIrector of Sport, Director of News and Director of BBC World Service and Global News. I was on the management board of the BBC for ten years.
From 2010 - 2012 I was Global Vice Chairman and Chief Content Officer for Edelman consulting with companies including Microsoft, PwC, Unilever, Channel 4, Al Jazeera, Haymarket Publishing, Qatar Foundation, and Mubadala among others.
