One of my regular podcast listens is On The Media from WNYC in the US. This week, they had an item on Psiphon, software from Citizen Lab at Toronto University for circumventing censorship on the web. More than 40 contries restrict access to the web to some degree. Ron Deibert from Citizen Lab explained the idea to Bob Garfield.
Citizen Lab is one of the partners in the OpenNet initiative, along with Harvard's Berkman Centre and the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge. Given the problems the BBC has with its website being blocked in some countries (China, Iran) we're thinking how we could work and co-operate with these initiatives.
