A few months ago I made clear my view of conspiracy theories. Today, the BBC finds itself in the bizarre postion of being accused of being part of some 9/11 conspiracy. It started with this clip of the coverage of 9/11 on YouTube. The posts (and consequent emails and abusive phone calls) claim we reported the collapse of the Salomon Brothers building (WTC7) some twenty odd minutes before it actually collapsed. Pure bunkum of course. The BBC Editors blog neatly summarises our position. I can't see any time references in the YouTube clips I've seen; Some claim you can still see the buidling behind her as she reports - it looks like a tape loop in the studio to me. However it's enough to convince some people that the BBC is part of some far reaching international conspiracy to murder thousands of innocent people in another country. So anything I say is unlikely to change their minds. I wonder if it could be related to the BBC film recently broadcast which knocked down many of the 9/11 conspiracy theories? Just a thought - but I suppose that's a bit of a conspiracy theory in itself.....
Never mind the one we broadcast - what about the one you wouldn't let us show?
