I believe Carr misses the point and ignores the traditional responsibilities of journalists and editors not to amplify gossip and hearsay regardless of whether it is an overheard conversation in a pub or 140 characters typed into a mobile phone. Also to dismiss social media because it didn't result in the instantaneous overthrowing of a totalitarian theocratic regime is naive, if not a bit silly.
