Anderson and Wolff elaborate that though the Internet and the World Wide Web are often used interchangeably, they are two different things. To cite an example, users accessing Twitter, instant messages, iTunes, etc., via apps on their mobile handsets are surely on the Internet, but they are no longer accessing the World Wide Web.
While a decade back, the Web browser was inevitably the pivot of the computing world; the last few years– especially after the smartphone flurry - have seen a notable shift in the digital world. The focus has moved from the wide-open Web to semi-closed platforms which make use of the Internet for transport, but without the browser for display.
